Newton Police Department
• Daniel J. Poole, 31, of Des Moines, was charged with fourth-degree theft at 11:25 p.m. Sept. 24 at Walmart. An employee told police that Poole took several items into a fitting room and they believe he took the items out of the packaging and concealed them on his person. Police made contact with Poole who had “bulge” on his back. Poole denied having items on his person, and the officer handcuffed him. Police found a package of hunting broad heads on Poole’s waistline, two SD card readers and an additional package of broad heads. The total amount of items stolen was $204. Poole was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Paul L. Harris, 29, of Newton, was arrested at 4:33 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Newton Police Department on a Jasper County warrant for criminal mischief after police were called to a residence at 11:44 p.m. Sept. 13 on North Fourth Avenue East in reference to an unwanted guest. Harris is accused of yelling and pounding on the home’s back door. Police located Harris, and he refused to leave the home and became hostile toward officers. Harris was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Aaron D. Reeves, 22, of Newton, was charged with third-degree theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of controlled substance — methamphetamine at 12:03 a.m. Sept. 28 after police were called to 821 S. 13th Ave. E. in reference to stolen property. Police found a laptop inside the home that had been reported stolen. Reeves was found hiding inside a closet. During a search of his room, police found the stolen laptop, a methamphetamine pipe, a marijuana pipe and a small baggie of methamphetamine. Reeves told police the items didn’t belong to him. Reeves was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail.
