Grateful for response to serious accident

Wednesday morning, my wife and two of my children were involved in a serious accident on First Avenue near Aurora Heights. The minivan they were traveling in was struck by another vehicle on their way to school. The airbags deployed, several windows in the vehicle were broken and the force of the collision (according to a bystander) rolled the mini-van. Thankfully, no one involved in the accident was seriously injured.

There were three main things that I will take away from this experience.

The first is the kindness of strangers. There were several people who stopped to make sure my family was OK. One kind person helped my 7-year-old daughter out of the van. My daughter was crying, had a bruise on her face, was covered by some of the broken glass and was obviously shook up. Another person stopped to make sure they were OK and left her contact info. Thank you to both of those ladies.

The second item I will remember from this incident is the professional job performed by both Newton Fire Department and the Newton Police Department. I am very thankful for their quick response and the high level of care that they provided my family. I’m very grateful for the high level of service provided by our public safety professionals each and every day.

My final takeaway was the concern that my co-workers and community members had for my family. People were very kind. As someone who has recently moved to Newton, I feel very fortunate to be living in a community where people care for and look out for one another.
