Three area girls’ basketball players were named to an all-region team in their respective classes recently.
Prairie City-Monroe sophomore Regan Freland was named to the Class 3A Region 7 team, while Lynnville-Sully junior Carson Fisk and senior Mariah Vos earned 1A Region 3 honors. The all-region teams are annually chosen by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.
Freland was the Mustangs’ top player for the second straight season. This year, she led PCM in points, assists and steals and was second in rebounds per game.
Freland ranked 10th in the 3A in points per game at 19.1. She made 74 percent of her free throws (85-of-115), pulled down four rebounds per game, averaged 3.6 assists per contest and swiped 3.18 steals per tilt.
The Mustang sophomore set a new school record for points in a game when she put in 35 in a win over Saydel. She also had 29 against Greene County and scored 22 points in losses to state-ranked Nevada and North Polk.
In a game against Fairfield, which joined North Polk in this year’s state tournament, Freland had 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Fisk was the Hawks’ top scorer and top rebounder this season. She averaged 14 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She also dished out 1.45 assists per game and had 1.63 steals per contest.
Fisk made 48 percent of her shots from the floor, collected six double-doubles and her most impressive game of the season was a 22-point, 11-rebound effort against South Iowa Cedar League champion North Mahaska.
Fisk was at her best in the postseason, too. In the Hawks’ three playoff games, Fisk scored 23, 22 and 22 points. She helped lead the Hawks to their fourth straight 1A regional championship game.
Vos averaged 10 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.64 steals per contest and made 41 percent from the floor. She led her team with 66 steals and dished out 33 assists.
Vos collected three double-doubles this season and made 41 percent of her shots from the floor. Her best game of the season was a 16-point, six-rebound, six-steal effort against state-ranked North Mahaska.
Joining Freland on the 3A Region 7 team were Roland-Story’s Jenna Clark and Juliann Clark, South Tama County’s Jessica Musgrave, West Marshall’s Isabelle Gradwell and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont’s Torie Alexander.
Fisk and Vos were joined on the 1A Region 3 team by Collins-Maxwell’s Brianda Bane, Colo-NESCO’s Faith Vincent, GMG’s Mackenzie Vaske, Clarksville’s Kori Wedeking and AGWSR’s Mandy Willems and Aubrie Fisher.
