Newton woman hospitalized after assault

An alleged assault hospitalized a Newton woman Sunday night.

Jacob T. Lundin, 29, of Newton, is charged with domestic abuse assault impeding flow of air or blood after the Newton Police Department was called around 6 p.m. to Skiff Medical Center.

Officers arrived to the hospital and found the victim in a neck brace, covered in her own blood with bruising on her arm. The victim told officers earlier in the evening she had attempted to break up with her boyfriend, Lundin, after dating for a year and a half when he pinned her down on a bed, applied pressure to her throat and covered her mouth, obstructing her breathing. She said he then hit her in the face multiple times causing her nose to begin bleeding.

After the incident, the victim said she convinced Lundin to give her a ride to Skiff because her nose wouldn’t stop bleeding. Officers also spoke with residents who live in the upstairs unit of the home who said they heard a man shouting and a woman crying that evening although they did not know what was happening downstairs.

Lundin was taken to the Jasper County Jail where he is being held without bond. The victim also requested a no-contact order against Lundin.
