Special election set for vacated Iowa Senate seat

DES MOINES — A special election to fill an Iowa Senate seat vacated last week when Sen. Jeff Danielson resigned will be held next month.

Gov. Kim Reynolds on Monday issued a proclamation that sets the special election for March 19 for the eastern Iowa district which covers Cedar Falls, Hudson and parts of Waterloo in Black Hawk County.

Danielson, a Democrat announced on Thursday his resignation from the District 30 seat and his job as a Cedar Falls firefighter.

He was in his fourth Senate term and has been vice president of the Cedar Falls firefighters union.
Danielson didn't explain in detail reasons for leaving both the elected office and his firefighter job but says he plans to announce a new job opportunity this week.
