Working for you

I’ve served as your State Representative for two terms and am running for re-election this November. I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself to new Jasper County residents as well as reintroduce myself to all of you. I am a lifelong Jasper County resident who has been a public servant in one capacity or another most of my adult life. I have served Jasper County residents as a law enforcement officer for 27 years, DMACC instructor for five years and State Representative for four years. My public service began as a volunteer Jasper County Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy, then to the Prairie City Police Department, Monroe Interim Police Chief and Newton Police Department.

Newton Police Department, 24 years (retired police lieutenant)

• School Resource Officer

• DARE Instructor, seven years

• Investigations, six years

• SWAT team member, 10 years

• 2002 Police Officer of the Year

• 2018 Gold Star Award recipient, Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies Association Award, recognition of public service in protecting Iowa citizens.

In addition to my law enforcement career, I am an active member of the community. I have served on multiple boards and organizations over the years. Below are a few of the boards and projects I have assisted on:

Drug Endangered Children, (DEC), working to protect our children in difficult situations

Newton Says No to Human Trafficking, protecting victims through education and awareness programs.

NAMI- National Alliance on Mental Illness, fighting for resources and services

Veterans History Project, honored to assist with memorializing our heroes’ stories for placement in the Library of Congress, three years.

Iowa Concerns of Police Survivors, passed bipartisan legislation to support families of fallen officers, Public Safety Survivor Fund.

I take pride in teaching our future leaders as a criminal justice instructor for DMACC; previously as a DARE Instructor and additionally conducted multiple educational programs as School Resource Officer. My education background consists of:

Master’s Degree, Management, American Military University

Master’s Certificate, Criminal Justice, University of Virginia

Bachelor’s Degree, Public Administration, Upper Iowa University

FBI National Academy Graduate, Quantico, Va.

Liberal Arts Degree, Newton DMACC

My greatest reward is my loving family. I’ve been married to my wonderful wife Kris for over 32 years, have three great children and two of the cutest grandchildren. I have enjoyed being a soccer, softball, t-ball and basketball coach, in addition to being a Cub Scout Den Leader and Dancing Dad.

Thank you for the opportunity to re/introduce myself. It is my honor to serve as your State Representative. Please reach out anytime, 641-521-6714.
